WHAT TO READ: BEST BOOKS TO READ IN DECEMBER

Although December is the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also the most stressful time. You need to finish all of your tasks at work before the holidays, cold weather followed by short days, last minute holiday shopping, so taking literary breaks is a must.

Just in time for the holiday season, I want to share my top five favorite books to read this month:

1. FACTFULNESS: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World—and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by HANS ROSLING

An outstanding guide to think clearly about the world. In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and global TED speaker Hans Rosling, together with son Ola and daughter-in-law Anna Rosling, reveal ten facts that we don’t know, like the way we use media, to how we perceive progress.

We think we know about the world we live in, but we have no idea! It turns out that the world, is in a much better state than we think. There’s no room for facts when our minds are occupied by fear.

2. INDISTRACTABLE: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life by NIR EYAL

Everyday we are distracted by so many things around us. While working in the office, a notification on our phone interrupts and we continue opening other apps. When we try to get back to work, someone calls and the concentration at work is gone. You could use a good amount of the time you’re spending on the phone instead spend it with your partner or children.

Indistractable is a very empowering and practical book, and it provides great techniques to control your time and attention. I highly recommend this book!

3. ONE SIMPLE THING: A New Look at the Science of Yoga and How It Can Transform Your Life by EDDIE STERN

One Simple Thing, is a nice balance of science and spirituality. All purposes and benefits of yoga, philosophy, science, spirituality, anatomy, and how yoga practice affects the body and mind positvelly.

As a yoga practitioner, I can confirm that yoga improves physical and mental health and it helps me to be stronger, more productive, sleep better and think better. The author explains what we do affects who we become, and reveals how a create routine of physical activities, so that our brain can control our actions and emotions. If you know the basic concepts of yoga, you will understand this book better.

4. ANYONE by CHARLES SOULE

ANYONE is a masterpiece and mind-blowing book. Very intense and masterfully written novel set in a realistic future about a brilliant female scientist Dr. Gabrielle “Gabby” White is a Ph.D./M.D., who creates a technology that allows for the transfer of human consciousness between bodies, and tries to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. If you are a tech freak, you will be completely hooked with this book.

5. THE IMMORTALISTS by CHLOE BENJAMIN

If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life? Chloe Benjamin’s beautifully written book, describes the most fundamental and complex questions about life and how we live it. It is 1969 and in New York City’s Lower East Side the four Jewish Gold siblings seek a light after a mystical woman, who claims to be able to tell anyone the day they will die. They cannot break free of this knowledge which shapes their futures for the following five decades. This is a story of family, loss, secrets, regrets, sibling relationships, death and above all else, about life.
