In the beginning of the 2016 I was almost experiencing a burnout, which made me very unhappy from the inside. I used to attend every event, meeting people everyday, working non-stop, traveling a lot, going to the fashion weeks etc. I became literally like a robot, and everything became very static. I came to realize that nothing can make me happy, if I don’t fix my inside first. Slowly, I learned to say ‘NO’ and instead of events or meetings, I started to take care of myself and do more grounded things. As I no longer have FOMO “Fear Of Missing Out”, I am much happier and content with the person I am today. Therefore I want to share few tips, how you can also practice the art of JOMO:

Just breathe, and let go

JOMO -“The Joy of Missing Out” means, instead of being driven by fear, you should start enjoying every moment of your life. Bring your attention and focus to what’s important, and move forward with your life. Just switch off, put away your laptop, phone and tablet and distance yourself from social media. “As we grow on a personal level, we begin to feel more passionate about life in general. We are naturally more motivated because learning and growing add motivation and a sense of excitement.

I learned that I don’t need to be everywhere, and do everything what everyone does. By being selective where I put my attention and energy into, I have enhanced the quality of my life and feel more satisfied on a daily basis as a result. Knowing what brings value to your life is essential to making smart decisions about where to spend your energy. That is when something interesting happens, you realize that you don’t need to attend all events, to be seen everywhere. Just appreciate your company, and find serenity without effort.

Finding true happiness

JOMO allows you to have more free time, and not waste your precious time scrolling down social media feeds. Take time to meditate, it helps to put your perspective on things that matter. It also boosts your creativity and increases the overall well-being. Being alone can also be enjoyed in other ways: just like reading books, practicing yoga or workout. The same applies to restaurants, bars or cafés. Take a book or a pen with a paper, and dive into your own thoughts. At some point, you will not care if someone is watching.

Live in the present moment

“Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

In the times we live in, it’s not easy to live in the present moment, because we let the present slip away quickly while being too busy worrying about the future, and thinking about the past. We always jump from one thought, to another as well as from one activity to another without taking time to enjoy the present. Just learn to enjoy every minute of your life, and be happy now. Don’t let something you’ve missed in the past, to ruin your present!
