It’s that time of the year when I’d rather stay inside and have a cosy afternoon reading books, than going outside when it’s cold and raining. There is nothing better than cosying up with a warm blanket, a good book, nice scented candles, and a cup of tea – just as lovely as fall is. I am starting this season with my favorite picks for fall which inspired me, and I believe that you’ll also find something interesting on the book list I am sharing with you:

1. NORMAL PEOPLE by Sally Rooney

“Normal People” is the first book I read from Sally Rooney, and I am already a fan of the young Irish novelist. Rooney writes about the love affair between two young people, which was awarded with the top prize at the book awards. The Guardian said: “Normal People is the literary phenomenon of the year“. I didn’t understand this statement, until I read the novel. This book is a refreshing feature about young people, the fireworks of first love, and the consequences of family and friendship.

2. ATOMIC HABITS: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

“Atomic Habits” is one of those books that will make you improve yourself and achieve your goals. Like Amazon describes him, James Clear is an expert on habit formation, reveals practical strategies that will teach you exactly how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the behaviors that lead to remarkable results. Before starting this book, write down your bad habits you want to break, also your good habits you want to build. “Atomic Habits” is filled with practical advices and examples. I really enjoyed reading this book!

3. HYPERFOCUS: How to Manage Your Attention in a World of Distraction by Chris Bailey

Another practical guide to read, which will help you to manage your attention in the a world of distraction. Our attention is the commander of our actions. If we focus we will become aware, and can control our attention better. Most of us maintain a continuous partial attention throughout the day, jumping from task to task and controlling many things without being truly focused in any one of them. By managing how you think about your attention, this book reveals that the more effectively you learn to take charge of it, the better you’ll be able to manage every aspect of your life.

4. THE BIG NINE: How the Tech Titans and Their Thinking Machines Could Warp Humanity by Amy Web

The big nine starts with an interesting opener namely; ‘’artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere – from our smartphones, computers to our banking system, health care and even our cars are driven by the rapid developing technology’’. However, the book isn’t about explaining what AI is but gives an interest history of AI, the present developments and lastly future revelations. This book talks about the big tech companies that use our data to get power over us. Their name may be familiar to you: Amazon, Google, Facebook, Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba, Microsoft, IBM and Apple. The author describes a scenario where eventually China might win the race because they have a government that invests in AI and a strategic foresight to ‘’win this AI-war’’ to ultimately dominate the world with the continuously advancing technology.

5. THE LAWS OF HUMAN NATURE by Robert Greene

“Most of us have depressive tendencies and moments. The best way to handle them is to be aware of their necessity—they are our body’s and mind’s way of compelling us to slow down, to lower our energies and withdraw.”

Robert Greene is a bestselling author, a master guide, and a great collector of information. This book provides valuable information concerning humans, lot of insights and advices. “The Laws of Human Nature” answered probably 89% of questions concerning humans that I have been thinking all the time. It’s a very comprehensive, but in all – really enjoyable book.
